Yorkshire's Independent Restaurant Guide

Yorkshire Food Finder

If you’ve ever enjoyed a meal at the Star at Harome, or the Pipe and Glass, two of Yorkshire’s very best gastropubs, if you’ve licked a Yummy Yorkshire ice cream or scoffed some Yorkshire Blue cheese, or if you are just interested in good food, then you should know about Yorkshire Food Finder.

They are a series of themed trails led by two knowledgeable foodies Sue and Aidan Nelson, who will transport you around the moors and dales and introduce you to the best Yorkshire food producers, teach you about their trade and host dinner in one of a series of top class local restaurants.

‘Bottons Up!’ Begins with coffee at the Star Inn at Harome, before a drive through the beautiful North York Moors National Park to the Camphill Village Trust’s, Botton Village where adults and those with special needs live and work together and where Alastair Pearson runs the dairy using milk from their own herd. He explains how their unique range of raw, organic cheeses are made before the tour continues to the award-winning Great Yorkshire Brewery at Cropton culminating at the Star Inn for a beer tasting and slap-up dinner.

Another trail is ‘On Top of the Wold’ which starts and finishes at the Michelin starred Pipe and Glass Inn at South Dalton in the beautiful Yorkshire Wolds. In between you can learn about craft brewing at Wold Top Brewery, visit Jacquie Broadhead’s farm to sample her Epicure’s Larder cheeses before returning to the Pipe and Glass for dinner and cookery demonstration by chef James Mackenzie.

Trails are scheduled throughout the year – to the Pennines for Yummy Yorkshire’s ice cream; to a venison farm in the West Riding; and Pimms, polo and a barbecue in the Wolds. Learn butchery, charcuterie and the secrets of sausage making along the way.

Prices are £125-£160. They all take a full day and usually include a picnic lunch and a memorable dinner. Gift someone a Food Finder voucher or Sue and Aidan will make up bespoke trail tailored to your group. It’s all at  www.yorkshirefoodfinder.org  or contact them on [email protected]
