We loved last weekend’s Food Lovers Festival in Malton so we’re curious to see how York’s first Mini Food Festival compares.
Of course Michael Hjort and his team know what makes a good festival, they’ve been running the York Food Festival for the last 12 years. But this is the first mini Festival they’ve put on in spring, with the aim to showcase local producers and flag up the big one in September (16th-25th September).
The Festival’s theme this year is Dine at My Table this Saturday, 28th May, Melton’s are cooking for a dinner at the beautiful York Mansion House with special guest Sara Danesin Medeo, the Masterchef finalist who plans to open her own dining club in July. Tickets for the dinner are £40 including wine, book them through the Festival ticket office www.yorkfoodfestival.com.
The theme for the rest of the Mini Festival is English Wine and Asparagus, so expect to see lots of both on the market stalls, the Festival café and in the demonstrations. On stage will be James Wright who produces wonderful meat at Taste Tradition, wine expert Karen Hardwick on Fizz and Food and Sophie Jewett who makes amazing chocolates – ever tasted blue cheese chocolates, more delicious than you ever dreamed of?
