It’s National Vegetarian Week and Manchester’s quick off the mark with a jolly series of events and demos in Albert Square in front of the Town Hall. Various organizations and producers extolled veggie virtues but with such delicious delights to nibble they need hardly bother.
The nice people from the Cordon Vert Vegetarian Cookery School in Altrincham gave away fab recipe cards and head honcho Alex Connell did a series of demos, as did Kaushy and Bobby Patel from Prashad. Today Kaushy made her classic chole, chick peas cooked in a rich onion and tomato sauce. ‘Caused havoc at Leeds Mela!’ as it says on their menu.
Read my interview with the Patels and try the recipes for some of their fabulous Gujarati food in the Yorkshire Post on Saturday over the next few weeks; Kaushy will also be running a day course at the The Cooking School at Dean Clough , Halifax on Saturday 2nd July. Check the website for details, it’s booking up fast.
A very interesting and enlightening day ended up with Enzo di Marino of Zilli Green in London cooking up a plate of food that wouldn’t have looked out of place in a two M star gaff. Who needs meat? (er well I do, but not every day ..)
