James Martin Cooks

Malton’s ambition to establish itself as a food town continues with some vigour. As all as their regular Food Lovers’ Market (second Saturday of every month – next one 9th March) they are holding a Valentine weekend event on 17th February. Whether or not you go for the commercial Valentines day shtick, Malton’s a rather lovely place to do your weekend shop and there’s free parking in the Market Square and the Livestock Market. They have proper shops like the Paleys for veg, the lovely Malton Relish Deli,  The Patisserie with giant chocolate cup cakes for sharing and the very excellent Derek Fox butcher who are offering special Valentine deals on sausage and steaks, how’s that for romance?

James Martin

The  big event though is a cookery demonstration in the Milton Rooms by Malton’s favourite chef James Martin. He’s the executive chef at the smart Talbot Hotel in Malton, hence the link with the town. Tickets are £20 – quite pricey you may think considering you see him on the telly for free, but for that you get to see him in the flesh, pick up some cooking tips, he’ll sign your book and if you purchase the winning ticket you get dinner for two at the Talbot where you will be greeted by the man himself, shown to your table and have him personally cook your dinner. Now that would get a few Malton heads turning!
You can buy your tickets from the Talbot Hotel on 01653 639096. There will be two demos from James Martin 12noon-12.45pm and 2.30pm-4pm. The prize draw will take place at 5pm and the winning dinner will be at 6pm.
