Yorkshire's Independent Restaurant Guide

International Wine Challenge 2013

Two of our independent wine merchants have picked up gongs in the International Wine Challenge – arguably the largest scale awards in the UK.

Byrne’s in Clitheroe, already one of Squidbeak’s favourite places to browse and buy has been named NW regional independent and was mentioned in dispatches for its Rhone wines.

Hull based House of Townend, like Byrne’s  a family firm with a long history, picked up the North East regional award.

They have just launched their summer bin end sale. This merchant is strong on the classic French wine regions, and has an en primeur operation in several of them. But there are also some interesting bottles in their sale from other parts of the world.
