Catey Award for the Pipe & Glass

James MackenzieAfter reporting on the closure of Anthony’s it’s pleasing to be able to bring some good news. James and Kate Mackenzie of The Pipe & Glass, one of our favourite gastropubs in South Dalton, last night picked up a prestigious Catey Award for Best Pub and Bar at an award ceremony at Grosvenor House.

The Catey’s run by the Caterer and Hotelkeeper magazine are not known much outside the industry but are hugely respected in the trade, mainly because awards are nominated and voted for by industry insiders. They like to call them the Oscars of the restaurant industry.

No one else in the region collected an award but Simon Rogan of L’Enclume in Cartmel, Cumbria scored a double, almost unheard of in the Catey’s, picking up the Chef Award and the Restaurant of the Year Award.  Congratulations to all.
