Yorkshire's Independent Restaurant Guide

Andre Simon Food and Wine Awards

We told you it was our book of the year, and so we’re delighted to see that Niki Segnit’s book The Flavour Thesaurus has taken the top prize at the prestigious Andre Simon Food and Drink Awards. Of course we would call it prestigious wouldn’t we – that’s because my book Good Food in Yorkshire was shortlisted back in 1995 – but actually the criteria for selection is that books ‘must contain original research, be educational, pleasurable to read and well produced’, which means they select some brilliant  food and wine books. So forget those celebrity chef books, put together by someone else and get into some seriously good food and wine writing.

Cured by Lindy Wildsmith

Food from Plenty by Diana Henry

Hix Oyster and Chop House by Mark Hix

My Kitchen: Real Food from Near and Far by Stevie Parle

Saraban by Greg and Lucy Malouf.

The winner of the Wine Award was for

Inside Burgundy by Jasper Morris

and shortlisted were

Grogan’s Companion to Drink by Peter Grogan

Reading Between the Wines by Terry Theise

Wine Myths and Reality by Benjamin Lewin.
