Top Door Espresso, Halifax
Maybe it’s just the age we are, but there seems to be a rash of folk giving up full time, grown up jobs to persue a culinary dream. Last week we told you about Angela Cahill’s Chapelbank Smokehouse, and now, here’s Corinne Kielty and her fabulous, tiny espresso bar in Borough Market. Halifax has been a decent coffee desert (apart from Noco, which gets ridiculously busy) so it was with great joy that I stumbled across her.
Corinne was a book keeper in a previous life, then a hunt for a great cuppa led her to barista training at Dark Woods in Slaithwaite, and Limini in Bradford; she’s been taught well – espresso making is a great skill and Corinne has clearly got the chops. Alongside an excellent flat white you can score a salted caramel or chocolate honeycomb brownie from Tarte & Berry or a rather fine sandwich – choose from the likes of Serrano and Manchego or hummous and jalepeno. Beat a path to her door – whilst you’re having your caffeine fix you can gaze at the wonderful architecture of the market; it’s a proper Victorian gem.
Top Door is open Monday to Friday 0830 – 3pm
