Restaurant Number 20, Port Mulgrave

Some years ago we reported on the closure of our favourite restaurant the Fox and Hounds at Goldsborough on the Yorkshire coast. It was a very special restaurant that Mandy and I championed from the start, celebrating Jason Davies’ bold and confident cooking and Sue’s front of house skills and knowledgeable wine advice.

Now we are happy to report that the F & H is born again, renamed as Restaurant Number 20 and relocated to the former Ship Inn (not an inn but a lovely tea room that we also championed) in little Port Mulgrave further along the coast.

We’ve been at least three times now and can report it’s as good if not better than ever. Galician steak on their new Josper charcoal grill, sweet crab risotto, tender fish and a wider choice of desserts.

They are not big on social media. They have a basic website with no opening times but we can tell you they are normally open for dinner Thursday-Saturday. They sometimes put the menu up on their Instagram feed. They do make you work hard for your booking but trust us, it’s worth it.
