Pride & Provenance, Halifax
Just when you thought Halifax couldn’t get cooler, up pops a cracking cafe/bar just by the Piece Hall’s monumental South Gate. It’s a handsome, high space, all dressed stone walls, oak floors, beams and iron pillars, and on a chilly, grey afternoon business is brisk. It’s a straightforward menu featuring cured meats and cheeses, including Yorkshire Copa and Lomo, and a very good pork and fennel salami. Cheese comes from all over the country; Cornwall, Lancashire and just down the road (award-winning Pextenement in Todmorden).
Excellent bread comes from community/social enterprise bakehouse LoveBread in Brighouse; the salt & rosemanry foccacia is particularly good.
