Plough Inn, Wimbledon, Wimbledon

We’ve followed Richard and Lindsey Johns through their career from little Artisan in Hessle through a series of restaurants and now to Wombleton, a village four miles east of Helmsley.
It feels like a good fit for this talented chef who offers a no-nonsense menu in this cosy village pub. Start in the bar from a wine list created by Lindsey who runs front-of-house, then to the restaurant where they offer a menu of just three dishes at each course.
That’s no hardship when there is a creamy cauliflower cheese soup, roast beef with Parmesan and truffle chips or Cumberland sausage with beautifully creamed mash. Dessert goes chocolatey with chocolate mousse, chocolate sauce and chocolate ice cream or a classic crème brulee.
Don’t come here looking for experiemental dishes, what the Plough offers is wholesome, satisfying and expertly cooked food. What else could you ask of a village local?
They open for dinner Thursday to Saturday. Lunch Thursday and Friday. Monday evening has the ‘village menu’ offering three courses for £34 and Sunday lunch is just £40.
