Kiosk: Project Space, York
Fossgate has become a real hub, not just for independent shops in York but for good food and drink. There’s the tiny Blue Bell tavern, the Hop for wood fired pizzas, the Hairy Fig for deli goodies, a bunch of estimable restaurants and now Kiosk.
Kiosk is an art gallery and café where in the tiniest space they manage to welcome guests and on our visit a tiny guest in a pushchair. In such a squash the menu is inevitably simple but rather fabulous. Post lockdown they are open Wednesday to Sunday from 9am-2pm for the sale of the wonderful Haxby sourdough and cakes like lemon, sage and curd slice and daily specials.
As for the art on our visit there was Rebecca Carr’s relaxed clothing range (think Toast), beautiful studio pottery by Catherine and Matt West and Jono Smart, oil paintings, jewellery and textiles. It’s an all round delight.
