Kiosk: Project Space, York
Fossgate has become a real hub, not just for independent shops in York but for good food and drink. There’s the tiny Blue Bell tavern, the Hairy Fig for deli goodies, the wonderful T’Art making Italian pastries out of Fossgate Social and a bunch of estimable restaurants and Kiosk.
Kiosk is a café where in the tiniest space they manage to welcome guests and on our visit a tiny guest in a pushchair. In such a squash the menu is inevitably simple but rather fabulous. Post lockdown they are open Wednesday to Sunday from 9am-2pm for well filled sandwiches in the wonderful Haxby sourdough and cakes like lemon, sage and curd slice and daily specials.
As for the art on our visit there was Rebecca Carr’s relaxed clothing range (think Toast), beautiful studio pottery by Catherine and Matt West and Jono Smart, oil paintings, jewellery and textiles. It’s an all round delight.
