Home is the newish restaurant created by Liz Cottam – ex Masterchef finalist and Mark Owens – ex Box Tree. They offer a monthly changing five and ten course menu.
We’ve sampled the five course Sunday lunch and the seasonal five course menu, served in what is now an elegant and spacious dining room after a total refurb of the restaurant we remember as the Indian Darbar.
Lunch is an excellent updating of the usual roast and two veg. Most memorable is a little rabbit suet pudding with cabbage and gravy, deliciously comforting. More please.
There follows artichoke cream and roasted scallop, next their take on cauliflower cheese – pickled and roast cauliflower and a cheese filled mini pancake with truffle – then roast pork, apple sauce and Yorkshire pudding and a new look at lemon meringue to finish. It’s all highly accomplished.
The set menu is equally fabulous. Small courses but exciting, inventive, accomplished. Particularly memorable is the steak tartare and the Spring Garden salad in their May menu. Having been a bit lukewarm at first, we’ve really warmed to Home, so if you want to splash out, this is the one – oh and Man Behind the Curtain too.
