Devonshire Brasserie, Bolton Abbey
After the hushed tones of the Burlington Restaurant in the main hotel, the Brasserie couldn’t be more different. Walls, chairs, cushions in a rainbow of vivid colours: turquoise, pink, lime green. Wood on the floor, Howard Hodgkin oils on the walls. It’s all a riot. With a menu of brasserie favourites from steak and chips to slow roast pork belly and sausage and mash, a sensibly chosen and priced children’s menu: chicken goujons and chips, fish and chips, ice cream or spotted dick. There have been comments about careless service but they continue to drive out here from Ilkley and Skipton for fine views, outdoor seating in summer and a buzzy feel-good atmos.
