Bridge Cottage Bistro, Sandsend
Within a frisbee throw of Sandsend’s mile long beach in Yorkshire’s most plausible boutique resort, Bridge Cottage Cafe, is a pretty stone cottage set back from the road and one of our all time favourites.
Eat in the garden among drifts of lavender or indoors where Scandinavian minimalist meets Scottish hunting lodge: antlers, tartan and Verner Panton chairs.
Food is served daytime Tue-Sun 12 til 2 for lunch with steaks, risottos, fish and chips and morning and afternoon, great cakes. Then Thurs-Sat nights when the Bridge Cafe morphs into a proper restaurant raising its game with fabulous local fish: potted shrimps, battered hake, sea trout with hollandaise. And it’s not just fish, there’s poached pork with summer vegetables or ricotta gnocchi with sage butter. At pudding, lemon posset and chocolate mousse confirm the Bridge Cafe as a grown up restaurant iunder chef/owner Alex Perkins. Check their website for fish nights, supper club and tasting menus. It keeps changing so we can’t keep up but rest assured Bridge Cottage goes from strength to strength. Sandsend just got trendier again.
