Bettys Cafe Tea Room, Ilkley
Each of the branches of Bettys Cafe Tea Room has its own distinguishing decorative features. As the years roll by they look less like the daring modern art they began life as and take on the patina of worthy old antiques. At the Ilkley tearoom, don’t miss the stained glass and the French marquetry hunting scene mural. Meanwhile the queues, the chocolate roulade, the éclairs and the glistening fruit flans are dependably the same here as in all the branches. There’s a genuine welcome for children with bibs, beakers, toys and high chairs to throw food and tantrums from. Parents should ignore it all and tuck into Bettys Swiss speciality, potato rosti.
