Don’t judge a book by it’s cover and all that but we’ve just been sent a free sample of Wensleydale Creamery’s latest invention Wensleydale with Jalapeno and Red Chilli cheese and it didn’t look good; the wrapping had all the lurid colours of a Mexican poncho. It didn’t sound good when we blogged about it last week and it doesn’t look any better unwrapped. Frankly, the red flecks in a sticky orange texture did nothing for me.
And, I’m sorry to say, because the future of good Wensleydale is close to our hearts, but in an unscientific but honest sampling by six young cheese eaters it didn’t taste good either; they gave it the thumbs down 5-1. I’d be surprised if this confection stays on the supermarket shelves for long. And it won’t be because it’s flying off them.
