Pizza Fella Leeds

Celebrating their first birthday in permanent premises, and being runners up in the Best Cheap Eats category at the Observer Food Monthly Awards, Pizza Fella has to be one of our favourite places to eat pizza in Leeds.

Helen Collier and Miles Robinson began their love affair with pizza in 2014 doing a stint at a pizzeria in Naples, and began their business doing the street food rounds in a converted Citroen van called Claude.

Now they’re rocking the Italian vibe, using Italian Caputo flour, San Marzano tomatoes and Fior di Latte with the best of British and Italian produce, in a unit on Vicar Lane. It has a utilitarian vibe but a warm welcome.

They warn that their bases are not “crispy like other styles of pizza”. But they are thin, deliciously chewy and have the right amount of char from the wood fired oven. And they taste properly authentic.

Fourteen pizzas are now on offer. We chose number eleven (spicy) with spianata salami, chargrilled aubergine, chilli and sprinkled with organic Sicilian oregano, and number fourteen (bianca) with smoked provola, buffalo ricotta, rocket, confit tomatoes and dribble with extra virgin olive oil. Delicious.

They have a small range of Italian craft beer, an intelligent, short wine list with several by the glass, salads and olives to start, artisan gelato to finish and North Star coffee. What more could you want?
