You know we LOVE the Bear cafe, on and on we go about it. This is just a little update, since they've had a bit of a freshen-up - nothing radical, just a menu tweak and a rather good development on the ground floor; an espresso bar. I called in today for some Pextenement cheese and, as it turns out, a flat white and a piece of the most marvellous chocolate tiffin. Sod the diet.
The small plates menu now includes truffled wild mushrooms, beetroot keftedes - love the sound of these - beet and feta cheese fritters with Lebanese flatbread, and Pamboli. If you're ravenous, black bean burrito is the way to go - served with 'ancient grains' and an orange salad. Lush!
The cakes are as unusual and beautifully presented as always - talking of which, the tiffin is a magical meld of chocolate, coconut, something fragrant (cardamom?) and oh, I don't know, some fairy dust. As much as I love Hebden Bridge - and we should all support it, what with the floods - Tod is becoming way cool, as the young people say.
