Here we are, going off-message again. We've given you places to stay in Yorkshire, but there's no way we could find this amazing place and not let you in on it. It's a manor house, right? Right. But forget any notions of chintz and stiffness, this wonderful place couldn't be more warm, welcoming and well, cool. Robert and Jo (she's a local lass - left home, went away, came back, old story) are the epitome of cool; stylish, funny, chatty and relaxed, and Jo's keen design eye means that alongside some fabulous bits of antique furniture there are modern show-stoppers too. Sweep in to the elegant drawing room, all white sofas and roaring fire and be spoiled rotten with home made scones - or take to the glorious garden in summer months and make like The Camomile Lawn.
Bedrooms are just as sophisticated - but supremely comfy too, with big beds, crisp white cotton sheets and sumptuous bathrooms. In one room, a brilliant, huge purple velvet sofa to sink into after a long walk up the hills or down the dales - the walking in this part of Derbyshire is peerless. Breakfast (candlelit - yep, you heard) consists of good coffee, local bacon and Staffordshire oatcakes, which if you've never tasted, you've missed a proper treat. And as if staying in Derbyshire couldn't get any better, one of the best pubs in the county, The George, is a short stroll across the village green.
How Much: 80 - 150 per night
