Janet Trousdale inherited this lovely old farm from her parents and has magicked it into a fabulously luxurious B&B in rural north Yorkshire; the lane down to it looks like any other but you'll be blown away when you see what you've booked yourself into.
The former farm outbuildings have been impressively renovated, so expect huge four posters created from antique French panels, spacious, state of the art bath/wetrooms and French doors leading to flagged patios with super views over the rolling countryside. Janet's first thought is to make sure you're supremely comfortable, so bed linen is crisp white cotton and towels are super-fat - but she's got a keen design eye and a bit of a collecting habit, so it feels a million miles from corporate. All the rooms are on the ground floor and most of them are suitable for less able guests.
Tuck in to one of her fabulous breakfasts in the light filled conservatory before striking out for the moors - she's got any number of maps and routes and is happy to help you plan your day. Brickfields is the kind of place you'll want to return to; the warmth of Janet's welcome, the surprisingly luxurious rooms, the proximity to stunning countryside. What are you waiting for?
How Much: Singles from 60 pounds, the king four poster from 130 pounds
Kid's Stuff: Not really suitable for little 'uns
Well Placed: Great countryside on the doorstep; you're in the North York Moors National Park and it's all yours for the taking. Lovely market town Kirkbymoorside is a mile up the road, Pickering and Helmsley are equidistant, Malton and Thirsk easily do-able. It's not that far from the coast either.
Good Grub: The superb Star at Harome is a whisker away, and the Pheasant (in the same village) a great place for afternoon tea. If you fancy a proper old fashioned pub, the Blacksmiths Arms at Lastingham is a step back in time, and the magnificent Grapes Inn in Slingsby is currently our fave pub, full of lovely vintage finds and serves the best steak pie for miles! If it's a Michelin experience you're after, the Black Swan at Oldstead is the place to head for.
