By day a low key, easy going café, by night a buzzy, busy, better-book-it eatery presided over by Luigi and his family, every one of them a force of nature, singing and talking ten to the dozen in that pleasing hybrid of Yorkshire Italian.
There are any number of places to eat in town, but beat a path to this door (even though you have to get lost trying to find it, tucked away as it is on an unglamorous side street) and eat freshly prepared, genuine Italian food, which might include bruschetta with mozzarella di bufala, roast tomatoes and spiced olives, or the rich and deeply satisfying stuffed aubergines.
In the chiller, magnificent home made pasta dishes – lasagne, cannelloni, ravioli – vie for your attention. The coffee is excellent and the cakes a fine accompaniment. Brightly packaged Italian groceries leap off the shelves round the walls into your shopping bag. Just in case you’ve not stuffed yourself. Fantastic value for money, a genuine hidden gem.
