If you want to spend some time in one of the prettiest parts of the Yorkshire Dales (but avoid the crowds) you can’t do much better than Swallow’s Nest.
It’s far enough off the beaten track (actually just down a quiet lane off the main road) but near enough to Grassington, Pateley Bridge and Malham as to not make any difference.
A former 19th century lead miner’s cottage, it’s been simply but immaculately renovated and refurbished by Bob and Suzanne; downstairs, a big, beamed comfortable sitting room with wood stove for chilly nights, an elegant dining room and cosy kitchen equipped with all you’ll need and more.
Up the open plan stairs to 3 charming bedrooms – a double, single and twin, all with stunning, long reaching views over the hills. Modern bathrooms belie the traditional vibe elsewhere.
This is rural relaxation at its best; expect oak floors, good linen, fat towels, broadband WiFi and a bottle of wine waiting for you.
How much? £450-£680 per week.
Kids? Youngsters over 12 welcome
Well Placed? You’re a stone’s throw from some of the must-see Dales hot spots: Malham Cove and Tarn, Kilnsey Crag, Hawes, Bolton Abbey and Pateley Bridge. Skipton and Settle are a short drive.
Good Grub? You’re spoilt for choice. The fabulous Fountaine Inn in stunning Linton, the famous (and rightly so) Angel at Hetton and the Lister Arms at Malham all guarantee you a great dinner. More locally, the charming Old School Tearoom in the village serves honest, home made casseroles and fab cakes and coffee.
