If you are bike nut or a walker and want a comfy, clean and cheap bed for the night, you could not do better than the Dales Bike Centre at Fremington in Swaledale.
It’s classed as a hostel, but if that conjures up damp and dingy bedrooms think again. The DBC is new and modern with stunning views across Swaledale. A full English breakfast is included in the price and the cafe supplies daytime meals and an endless supply of homemade cakes.
Stuart and Brenda Price are the lovely couple behind this enterprise and whose idea it was to create a dedicated cycle hub in this lovely corner of the Dales. It took years of work, effort and planning permission to restore two beautiful Dales barns and convert them into their dream bike centre
It’s been up and running a couple of years now and it has just about everything you need. On site is a drying room and laundry, bike store, cycle repair and bike wash. Accommodation is in simple two and four bunk bedded rooms, 14 in total with a kitchenette when you need a snack and a brew.
The DBC offers bike hire, cycle courses, guided and self guided routes and it’s ideally located on the Yorkshire Dales Cycle Way, the Coast to Coast walk, the Mountain Bike Coast to Coast and Sustrans route 71.
How Much? £26 per person per night
Kids Stuff? Yes
Well Placed I’ll say. Fremington is in the heart of Swaledale, a few yards from Grinton village and half a mile from Reeth.
Good Grub? The café is available in the daytime. There is a small kitchen in the accommodation block. For evening meals you could go for the lovely Overton House Café in Reeth or the PB inn at Low Row
