Of all the hotels in York none has a better pitch; it’s within a choir boy’s throw of the Minster and a mere amble to the museums, shops, restaurants, theatres and sites of the city. Have your car valet parked, then forget it.
Inside is a smallish (37 bedrooms), friendly and comfortable boutique-style hotel. The manager David Brooks is a charmer who runs a calm and efficient ship at the Dean Court.
Rooms come in all shapes and sizes but have been smartly refurbished in various permutations including four family rooms with a real commitment to parents with children - DVDs, games, toys and a couple with PS2 facility.
Some rooms have full disabled access and all de luxe and superior rooms have Minster views. There are seasonal offers and various packages and romantic extras like the ‘PS I Love You’ package which includes champagne, toiletries, strawberries and cream and a scattering of rose petals with a Buck’s Fizz breakfast the following morning.
How Much? £170 double room per night. Check out reduced winter offers and seasonal breaks
Kid’s Stuff? Four family rooms. Children are welcomed and well looked after
Well Placed? Brilliantly situated right in the heart of the city, beside York Minster and a stroll to the shops, restaurants and tourist sites
Good Grub? In the hotel, DCH is the more formal dining room with good modern cooking and an emphasis on local produce. The Court Café Bistro is informal – soups, tarts, sandwiches, wraps and the like. Want to eat out? Head for Meltons, Le Langhe or J Baker's, or browse our York pages
