Burr York

First it was De Clare's then Cabra Verde, now this charming little daytime cafe and food bar has settled down as Burr with dependable and good quality sandwiches, light meals and platters. At breakfast you might pop in for a smoked salmon bagel, granola with yoghurt and honey or a well filled bacon butty. The soup's on by late monring along with quiche, sausage rolls, scotch egg, salad and Yorkshire or Spanish platters of meats and cheese. There are good cakes: lemon polenta, banana loaf, chocolate brownie and more. Sherry, beer and a thoughtful wine list make this just the job for a post-shopping break or put together the ingredients for a picnic in nearby Museum Gardens.
