Best Best eats near great walks

You don’t need us to tell you that Yorkshire is great walking country. Combine it with a great place to eat and you have the makings of a perfect day out. There are plenty to choose from, but here are five of our favourites matching a walk with good grub.

Queens Arms , Litton
A bucolic setting for this smartly whitewashed pub in pretty Littondale which marries traditional and modern in food and decor. Stroll by the river Skirfare before tucking in to their wholesome home made food and craft ales.
Wheatsheaf Inn, Egton
You might find yourself cosying up in the bar with the local shoot or a fishing party at this handsome pub on the North York Moors.  The food is full on whether you are in one of the two tiny bars or the dining room. Just the job after a bracing walk.
Timble Inn, Timble, Otley
Expect a warm welcome and surprisingly sophisticated food in this smartly renovated old pub after a walk round Swinsty Reservoir in thestunning Washburn Valley.
Golden Lion, Osmotherley
Osmotherley on the western fringes of the North York Moors is an irresistible stop on the Cleveland Way. Be warned: once you’ve settled by the fire amid the old oak and candlelight and ordered their roast poussin with garlic butter, you may never want to leave.
Yorkshire Sculpture Park, Wakefield
Rarely does art, walking and eating come together so well! Check out the Gormleys, Moores and Hepworths dotted around Yorkshire Sculpture Park’s 500 acre site before making for the contemporary café with long views over the rolling hills.
